Today, many parents tell Hagens Berman that they have not received proper repairs to their child’s recalled crib. Other parents say these cribs may still be dangerous even after repairs are made.
More than 9 million cribs from different manufacturers have been recalled in the past five years because the cribs’ drop-side plastic hardware may break or deform, or parts can go missing. In some cases, the drop-side can be improperly mounted, which may result in broken or disengaged plastic parts.
All of these problems can cause the drop-side to detach in one or more corners. When the drop-side detaches, it creates space between the drop-side and the crib mattress. Infants and toddlers can become entrapped in the space, which can lead to suffocation, amputation and in rare cases, decapitation. The drop-sides can also detach and lead to falls from the crib.
Last month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) banned drop-side cribs and recommended new crib safety standards. These new standards are expected to go into effect some time next year and will prohibit the manufacture, sale and use of all drop-side cribs.
Attorneys with Hagens Berman want to hear from parents who have purchased a drop-side crib within the past two years and experienced an incident that did or could have caused harm to children. Please share your story with us here.
