Date Filed: July 1, 2008 Court: U.S. District Court Location: California
Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro filed a class-action lawsuit against Hyundai claiming the car manufacturer knowingly sold Sonatas with defective sub-frames to customers.
The complaint alleges cars sold between 1999 and 2004 lack corrosion protection, which leads to premature decay. The plaintiff claims the sub-frame lacks sufficient and effective drain holes that allow road materials and water to drain from the frame. The lack of drain holes also prevents Hyundai from treating the sub-frame with anti-corrosion coating.
The sub-frame sits under the engine between the front wheels of the car. It serves as the sole steering support for the Sonata and anchors front suspension.
Cars with sub-frame corrosion may experience high levels of sub-frame deterioration, steering control arm separation and steering loss, which can lead to accidents, court documents claim.
Any Hyundai Sonata owner who purchased a car between 1999 and 2004 can join this suit.
