Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, one of the preeminent plaintiff class action firms with offices nationwide, is hiring a Legal Secretary for their Phoenix office. Litigation in the Phoenix office specifically focuses on consumer fraud and class actions.
This position would be responsible for supporting a legal team with document preparation and word processing, tracking information related to litigation filings, calendar management, database management, and general administrative duties.
Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys and paralegals with word processing including proofreading and formatting pleadings, briefs, motions and correspondence.
Proofread and correct drafts for grammar, punctuation, and spelling in order to produce error-free work.
Draft routine correspondence and pleadings.
Responsible for court filings and efilings, service, and court courtesy copies.
Assist with managing and tracking litigation matters.
Assist with maintaining and searching Excel and Microsoft Access databases.
Assist with discovery requests and responses; organize documents and assist with document productions, including bates-stamping, redaction, and production logs.
Work with clients and class members to gather and convey information.
Work with clients and medical providers to obtain medical records.
Assist with trial preparation, exhibits, witness materials, and trial logistics.
Assist with appellate briefs and appendices, format and proof and file.
File and scan documents in document management system.
Responsible for supporting legal team with calendar management, expense reporting, travel arrangements, photocopying, scanning, faxing, filing and mailing.
Miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ litigation experience as a legal secretary.
Understands advanced legal concepts and terminology, formats and Blue Book citations.
Knowledge of key Arizona court rules and procedures, and the skills to find and understand those in other jurisdictions.
Knowledge of Arizona ECF and AZTurboCourt efiling systems, and the ability to learn efiling systems in other jurisdictions.
Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to perform under tight deadlines and maintain patience in high pressure situations.
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word required. Experience working with Microsoft Office 2010 a plus.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills including spelling, grammar and proofreading skills.
Must manage highly confidential information with professionalism and unquestionable integrity.
