Hyundai recalls Sonatas; air bags may not inflate in crash

Hyundai is recalling nearly 155,000 Sonata midsize cars in the U.S. because the air bags may not inflate in a crash.

The recall covers cars from the 2011 model year. Hyundai says a short circuit in the air bag control computer can stop the seat belts from tightening before a crash as well as prevent the air bags from deploying. read more »

Study: False emissions data cost EU countries €10bn in lost taxes in 2016

New report from Greens in Europe to reveal major loss in tax revenue due to gap in real world vehicle CO2 emissions and results from lab tests

Eleven EU countries missed out on more than €10bn in tax take in 2016 alone because of the gap between how much CO2 cars emit on the road compared to their performance in laboratory testing.

A new report to be published tomorrow by the Greens/European Free Alliance (EFA) group in the European Parliament, seen by BusinessGreen, has found that tax take in at least 11 European countries would have been much higher if emissions tests had forced car manufacturers to disclose more accurate pollution figures. read more »
