U.S. Olympic Committee moves to shut down USA Gymnastics after sexual-abuse scandal

The U.S. Olympic Committee is moving to revoke USA Gymnastics' status as the governing body for the sport at the Olympic level, meting out the nuclear option to an organization that has botched its own reorganization in the wake of a sex-abuse scandal involving former team doctor Larry Nassar.

In an open letter to the gymnastics community Monday, USOC CEO Sarah Hirshland said "you deserve better," and that the challenges facing USA Gymnastics are more than it is capable of overcoming as currently constructed.

The organization, even with a newly constituted board of directors, made repeated mistakes after the revelations Nassar molested Olympians while working as a volunteer. read more »

Buffalo Diocese adds 36 more priests to abuse list

BISHOP: Diocese faced 'tsunami' of claims after March call for abuse victims to step forward.

The Buffalo Catholic Diocese has released the names of 36 more priests who have been been credibly accused of abuse.

The new names follow a similar list containing 42 priests with substantiated abuse claims that was released by church officials in March.

The new disclosure came during a press conference on Monday at Infant of Prague Church where embattled Bishop Richard Malone described the diocese as being overwhelmed by abuse claims after church leaders called on victims to step forward back in March. read more »
