SEATTLE – As requested by the court, Hagens Berman has added new student-athletes as class representatives to cover more sports in its class-action case against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regarding concussions and concussion treatment.

Attorneys representing NCAA student-athletes today recognized the court’s concerns regarding the proposed settlement that will provide a 50-year medical-monitoring program for student-athletes to screen for and track head injuries; make sweeping changes to the NCAA’s approach to concussion treatment and prevention and establish a $5 million fund for concussion research.

Hagens Berman managing partner, Steve Berman, said of the newly filed amended complaint, "This is a step in having the settlement approved which in turn will protect future athletes with better concussion management  plans for all NCAA sports."

On Dec. 17, 2014, U.S. District Judge John Z. Lee denied plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary approval, but suggested areas for the parties to address, and bring the proposed settlement back for the Court’s review.
