Additional Charges in an SMS World - How to 'can' your spam

Last week, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer ran an article about spam text messages and the controversy surrounding charges for them. For years, consumers have stressed out over the additional charges that seem unstoppable.

Recently, HBSS filed a lawsuit against T-Mobile claiming the company doesn’t allow customers to opt out of text messaging services, which leads to these unwanted charges. Depending on your service provider, there are ways to block spam messages and turn off text messaging. However, T-Mobile provides no way of turning off incoming text messages.

According to Ferris Research, U.S. consumers are expected to receive 1.5 billion unwanted text messages in 2008. When customers are charged $0.10 - $0.20 per message, this is a multi-million dollar practice for cell phone companies.
