'I want them to compensate me': Ottawa woman calls out Hyundai after Santa Fe catches fire
Sheena McGarvey was driving down Highway 174 to go kayaking with a friend on July 26 when she noticed a problem with her 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.
She couldn’t accelerate above 100 kilometres an hour, and heard a clunking noise. She says she immediately thought about a recall notice she received from Hyundai last year.
In March 2018, after receiving the notice, she went to a Hyundai dealership and says she was told her vehicle was safe to drive.
But McGarvey is convinced a manufacturer’s defect is behind the destruction that ensued.
When she noticed smoke coming from under the hood that July morning, she pulled over and got out of the car. That’s when she noticed a small fire. The flames soon covered the vehicle’s entire front grill and hood.
In April, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched investigations into some models of Hyundai and Kia vehicles experiencing engine failures, including 2011 to 2014 Santa Fe models. read more »
