Ram 4×4 Pickups Recalled for Fractured Rear Drive Shafts
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 2018-2019 Ram 1500 4×4 pickups because a cracked weld could lead the rear driveshaft to fracture and pull out of the transfer case.
The driveshaft could hit the ground, spreading debris and creating a road hazard. The truck could stall if in rear-wheel drive. Both incidents could lead to a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
Customers could notice some noise or vibration before the driveshaft fractures. FCA told NHTSA it knows of no crashes related to the defect.
FCA last year investigated six warranty claims of broken drive shafts manufactured by Dana Inc. All occurred on trucks with fewer than 5,000 miles. read more »
