Fraudsters to Pay $4 Million for AmeriCorps Awards False Claims in Whistleblower Lawsuit
The False Claims Act aims to capture all forms of fraud on the government. In addition to health care fraud, financial fraud, procurement fraud and defense contractor fraud, thousands of government grant programs, both state and federal, are subject to fraud. When grant applicants and recipients seek government dollars through fraudulent statements, misstating eligibility, or when they use funds for improper purposes not qualifying under the respective grant program, the False Claims Act is violated. "Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has agreed to pay $4.08 million to resolve allegations under the False Claims Act that it submitted false claims to the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) concerning AmeriCorps state and national grants, the Justice Department announced today.
