Whistleblower Suit Involving Alzheimer's Grant to Proceed

May 17, 2012 — In reversing a lower court's decision, a federal appeals court has ruled that a whistleblower lawsuit brought against 2 Boston hospitals and 2 Alzheimer's disease (AD) researchers accused of falsifying data to obtain a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant worth $15 million can proceed to trial.

The defendants are Brigham and Women's Hospital; Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH); Marilyn Albert, MD, a former professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and MGH; and Ron Killiany, PhD, from Boston University's Alzheimer's Disease Center, Harvard Medical School, and MGH.

The whistleblower in the case is Kenneth Jones, PhD, the chief statistician for the NIH grant. His wife, Priscilla Jones, is also a plaintiff in the case.
