“Dodd-Frank” refers to the landmark financial reform law passed by Congress and which established whistleblower programs at the SEC and CFTC which are now the most powerful tools available to whistleblowers to report securities and futures fraud and get rewarded for doing so.
WHAT IS DODD-FRANK?
In an effort to curb Wall Street excesses, Congress passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act which included creation of whistleblower programs under the SEC and CFTC. Recognizing that corporate insiders and expert market observers play a critical role in rooting out securities law and commodities act violations, the Dodd-Frank bill built vigorous whistleblower protections into the legislation known as the “Wall Street Tip-Off Law.”
Hagens Berman was representing whistleblowers even before the first day that the Securities and Exchange Commission’s and the CFTC’s Dodd-Frank Whistleblower Programs launched in the summer of 2011.
WHAT DOES DODD-FRANK OFFER WHISTELBLOWERS WHO REPORT SEC FRAUD?
Dodd-Frank empowers the SEC to award between 10 percent and 30 percent of any monetary sanctions recovered in excess of $1 million to SEC and CFTC whistleblowers who provide information leading to a successful enforcement action.
