WHAT’S THE ISSUE?
Hagens Berman is investigating reports that a number of intercollegiate athletics programs may have violated Title IX, a federal law that prohibits gender discrimination at publicly funded universities. For example, reports found that, in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, for every dollar Division I schools spent on travel, equipment and recruitment for male athletes, they spent only 71 cents on female athletes. Additionally, some universities may have artificially inflated the number of women on their athletics rosters to make it appear that they are in compliance with Title IX when they actually are not.
WHAT DO TITLE IX VIOLATIONS LOOK LIKE?
Title IX prohibits universities from discriminating against students on the basis of gender and requires that equitable treatment be provided to both male and female athletes in the areas listed below. If you have experienced discrimination in any of these areas, find out your rights »

YOUR RIGHTS AS A WOMAN IN COLLEGE SPORTS
Hagens Berman fiercely believes that no one should be denied opportunities on the basis of gender. Female collegiate athletes deserve the same chance to compete, learn and thrive as their male counterparts, and any publicly funded college or university that denies that chance is in violation of the law.
HOW CAN THE LAW HELP?
If you have been mistreated or discriminated against on the basis of sex or gender with regard to the opportunities or treatment you received as a student athlete, you may be entitled to file a lawsuit to seek justice for those who have suffered discrimination in the past and secure equitable treatment for future generations of athletes. Your voice deserves to be heard and you can make a difference.
If you think that your school has committed a Title IX violation, the law is in place to protect you, and you have the right to speak up without fear of retaliation. Schools are legally prohibited from penalizing an individual for asserting Title IX rights or raising concerns that the school is in violation of Title IX. If you decide to file a Title IX lawsuit, your school cannot kick you off the team, take any disciplinary actions against you or restrict your access to any programs or benefits as a result.
