Plácido Domingo leaves Met Opera over sexual harassment claims
The Metropolitan Opera has ended its relationship with the renowned tenor Plácido Domingo over allegations of sexual harassment by several women.
Domingo, 78, was due to sing the title role in the Met's production of Verdi's Macbeth, opening on Wednesday evening.
A total of 20 women have now accused the Spanish singer of harassment, inappropriate sexual behaviour and of sometimes using his position in the industry to harm their careers if they rejected him. Their claims were published in two reports by the Associated Press news agency. read more »
Employee Says UCLA Health Failed to Protect Her Against Sexual Abuse by Gynecologist
A medical assistant at the UCLA Health medical center on Tuesday said her employers failed to protect her from sexual abuse by Dr. James Heaps, a gynecologist who’s the subject of a class-action lawsuit accusing him of assault.
Gaby Vasquez–in a separate complaint against Heaps, the UC Regents and a manager at UCLA Health–said she reported Heaps but was threatened that she could lose her job.
“UCLA could have stopped this if they had listened to me… I was told to be quiet and just go back to work,” Vasquez said. read more »
Uber receives just a two-month London license with new safety conditions
Uber on Tuesday received only a two-month London operating license, failing to secure a maximum five-year term in a battle with the regulator which has previously stripped the app of its right to take rides.
Transport for London rejected the Silicon Valley company’s license renewal request in 2017 due to failings it said it found in its approach to reporting serious criminal offences and driver background checks, prompting legal action. read more »
