Hagens Berman is looking for a litigator with 2 - 5 years of litigation experience to join our Chicago team.  The successful candidate should have experience handling complex civil litigation and a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively.     

Core Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and vet potential new cases for technical and legal issues
  • Responsible for having a deep knowledge and understand all the facts in each case that is assigned
  • Ability to review, summarize, and highlight evidence gathered from documents
  • Research legal facts and regulations for new cases
  • Conduct all phases of civil discovery, including drafting written discovery, conducting meet and confers, and preparing for and conducting depositions
  • Draft briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents
  • Prepare for hearing, trial, and depositions
  • Help identify and work with experts
  • Identify, select and prepare expert witnesses

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • J.D. with 2-5 years’ litigation experience (class action and antitrust experience strongly preferred). 
  • Highly accomplished academic and employment credentials (federal law clerk experience a plus)
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Superior writing, drafting and oral advocacy skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills
  • Results oriented, self-starter, with a high level of initiative

Legal Assistant - Cambridge, MA

We are looking for a go-getter to join our team, performing a variety of office and legal functions and working closely with some of our partners. While we have a preference for prior legal experience, at bottom, we want a smart, hard-working, team player who is looking for an opportunity to do important, interesting work with a great group of people.  

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assisting attorneys and paralegals with word processing, including proofreading and formatting pleadings, briefs, motions and correspondence
  • Proofing drafts for grammar, punctuation, and spelling to produce error-free work
  • Filings with court, including e-filings, service, and court courtesy copies
  • Managing and tracking litigation matters, including maintaining internal files
  • Assisting with discovery requests and responses, including organizing document productions, bates-stamping, redactions, and creation of production logs

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3+ years’ litigation experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary
  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines and maintain patience in high pressure situations
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word required; experience working with Microsoft Office 2010 a plus 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills including spelling, grammar and proofreading skills
  • Must manage highly confidential information with professionalism and unquestionable integrity
  • Understands advanced legal concepts and terminology, formats and Blue Book citations 
  • Knowledge of the rules regulating paralegals/legal assistants
  • Knowledge of federal court rules and procedures, and the skills to find and understand those in other jurisdictions
  • Experience with federal ECF e-filing systems and the ability to learn e-filing systems in other jurisdictions
