Hagens Berman Jayco Cycling Notches First International 2025 Victory in Giro Next Gen
The Hagens Berman Jayco cycling team marked its first 2025 international win and tallied its 200th win overall on June 19, 2025. Adam Rafferty, a 19-year-old cyclist from County Tyrone, Ireland, won the fifth stage of the Giro Next Gen, completing the segment in three hours and 29 minutes. It was Rafferty’s debut in the U23 version of the Giro d’Italia and his first international race win.

Rafferty has been a member of Hagens Berman Jayco since the start of the 2024 cycling season. He is the reigning U23 Time Trial national champion and previously the 2023 Irish Junior National time trial champion. He placed 10th in the 2024 World Championships Men's Under-23 Individual Time Trial.

His first international stage win came after cycling 153 kilometers with 2,174 vertical meters of elevation gain. Rafferty broke off from the pack in the final kilometers of the race to take the win roughly eight seconds ahead of his competitors.
“I think it’s the happiest day of my life,” Rafferty said following the race. “I can’t be happier for the team. They have had so much faith in me for two years now. It’s my first international win and the 200th win for Axel Merckx’s team. It’s very special.”
