Hagens Berman’s Steve Berman Appointed to Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in Massive Volkswagen Emissions Litigation

SAN FRANCISCO Steve Berman, a leading consumer-rights attorney and co-founder of Hagens Berman has been appointed to the plaintiffs’ steering committee in the nationwide consolidated class-action lawsuit against Volkswagen affecting hundreds of thousands of owners and lessors of Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche diesel vehicles containing VW’s illegal “defeat device” emissions-cheating software.

“I am grateful to the court for this appointment and look forward to working with Judge Breyer and others to bring a swift and fair settlement in this litigation to help the hundreds of thousands of U.S. VW owners left in the dark by Volkswagen,” said Steve Berman, managing partner of Hagens Berman. “Corporate wrongdoing has many faces, and I believe that this litigation can and should stand as a prime example of how class actions can level the playing field for consumers.”

Hagens Berman filed several class actions arising from the emissions scandal, including the first in the nation, seeking swift remedies for consumers affected by Volkswagen’s fraud and violation of state regulations.

The firm was recently named to the National Law Journal’s list of Elite Trial Lawyers for its work fighting corporate wrongdoing in the automotive industry. Steve Berman was appointed to lead the largest automotive settlement in history – a $1.6 billion settlement against Toyota for a sudden, unintended acceleration defect. Additionally, Berman is leading the pending litigation against General Motors involving its ignition switch defect and related cover-ups.

To help combat VW’s fraud and delayed response, Hagens Berman launched a VW owners’ resource hub to help guide owners of affected Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche vehicles through the process, including a VW Owner FAQ about the case, and what details of the litigation process, including Volkswagen’s Goodwill Package.
