A Los Angeles federal judge Wednesday gave preliminary approval to the $215 million class-action settlement with women who say they were sexually abused by former University of Southern California gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall.
Dr. Heaps has been charged with two counts of sexual battery by fraud and one count of sexual exploitation following allegations from two of his former patients.
But the dioceses that have declined to name priests are calling into question the church's broader efforts to make amends for the abuse scandals, stirring a growing backlash from victims and their supporters.
