WHAT’S THE ISSUE?

Some of the country’s largest brokerage firms charge customers fees to receive paper account statements and may threaten to impose fees unless customers opt in to electronic delivery. These charges—often buried in the fine print—can add up over time because they are charged per account, not per person or account holder. Our law firm has filed a class-action lawsuit regarding this issue and wants to hear from individuals who may have been charged paper statement fees. Those threatened may have rights as well, but our focus is on those who paid the fees.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M AFFECTED?

If you were charged a service fee for paper statements from E*Trade, Interactive, Robinhood, SoFi Invest, Vanguard or any other stock broker, you may be affected. Review your statements to see if you have fees you didn't know you were paying. Fill out the form to find out your rights.

ABOUT THE PAPER STATEMENT INVESTIGATION

You should have received paper statements for your brokerage accounts at no cost by default, subject to a few minor exceptions. Often, brokerages fail to notify account holders, so you may not even realize they are adding such a charge. In many cases, institutions charge $1 to $5 per account, costs that can silently accumulate. Unfortunately, our claims are not as effective for banks, credit card companies or other non-brokerage companies, so we are not investigating fees by those companies.

Our class-action lawsuit challenges such fees from brokerages, which may not be legal, and seeks to uncover whether they were properly disclosed and whether consumers were misled or are unfairly penalized for choosing traditional mail over electronic delivery.

YOUR CONSUMER RIGHTS

If your brokerage charged you for paper statements, you may be entitled to monetary relief. Our attorneys believe these practices may breach your contract, as well as constitute unfair or deceptive acts, especially when fees are charged automatically. Hagens Berman is committed to holding brokerages like these accountable. Our attorneys are working to ensure consumers are treated fairly. If you’ve been charged, you deserve to know your rights and may be eligible to receive financial recovery.
