New Sexual Abuse Allegations Against USC’s Gynecologist Dr. Tyndall Surface in Amended Class-Action Lawsuit

Attorneys say a “shocking” number of women have stepped forward to detail doctor’s sexual misconduct

LOS ANGELES – More female students of the University of Southern California (USC) have come forward, detailing heinous acts of sexual abuse and molestation from the university’s longtime gynecologist, Dr. George Tyndall, according to attorneys at Hagens Berman who filed an amended class-action lawsuit against him, USC and its board of trustees, adding new plaintiffs following a flood of calls to the law firm.

If you were in any way violated or treated inappropriately by USC’s Dr. Tyndall during a medical examination, find out more about the lawsuit and your rights.

According to recent investigations, Dr. Tyndall sexually harassed, abused, molested and engaged in wildly inappropriate behavior with female students who sought his medical care at USC’s student health clinic. News outlets state Dr. Tyndall oversaw tens of thousands of female patients during his time at USC. The university knew of his behavior since at least the 1990s but failed to take action.

The amended lawsuit, filed May 24, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California was filed by 6 plaintiffs from across the country, all former students of USC who saw Dr. Tyndall for an examination and who were subjected to his wildly inappropriate actions.

“We are grateful to the many women who have bravely chosen to step forward and join this class-action lawsuit against USC, its board of trustees and Dr. George Tyndall,” said Steve Berman, managing partner of Hagens Berman. “Frankly, we have received a shocking number of calls and inquiries from women blowing the whistle on Dr. Tyndall’s elicit behavior, dating from the 1990s up until his long-delayed suspension in 2016.”

“We intend to do everything in our power to both protect and empower the hundreds – if not thousands – of women who were abused at the hands of Dr. Tyndall,” Berman added. “Our firm is ready to fight for this class of women.”

Hagens Berman’s attorneys achieved a nationwide sexual harassment settlement on behalf of 16,000 women and also tried the first ever sexual harassment case in Washington state. The firm represents multiple women on behalf of a class of all victims who were harassed or otherwise assaulted by Harvey Weinstein, seeking to hold him and his co-conspirators accountable for a years-long pattern of sexual harassment and cover-ups.

The suit details new allegations against Dr. Tyndall from anonymous patients who saw him for what they believed would be routine gynecological examinations.

“In each of our plaintiffs’ experiences, they were outright violated by Dr. Tyndall and were led to believe that his actions were acceptable due to the watching eye of a third party – a nurse – in the room,” Berman said. “This lured plaintiffs into a vulnerable position, and also ensured that USC was put on notice of these disgusting acts of abuse and violation. There is no excuse for USC’s breach of trust.”

Recent news headlines have brought these heinous acts to the forefront, and many victims have bravely stepped forward to tell their stories. Hagens Berman continues this fight, working to help achieve justice for those who have been victim to sexual violation, and enforce systemic change. Tell us about your case.
